THE
PROCESS
To best help the plaintiff, you will need to take into consideration
the following things.
- Potential
charges to be considered:
The Government of California is accused of willfully attempting
to deny Californian people of color their rights as guaranteed
by the First, Fourth, Sixth, and Eight Amendments to the U.S.
Constitution.
- You must
research the evidence to be used on behalf of your client group.
- Each clerk
will prepare a list of the evidence and arguments supporting their
client groups cases.
- In order
to do research on the clients, you will need to go to the Gold
Rush website at the Oakland Museum of California (www.museumca.or/goldrush/path.html).
Follow the pathway for your clients culture (African American,
Californio/Latino, or Chinese).
- Go to the
LAW & ORDER site (www.museumca.org/goldrush/fever16.html).
You will also want to visit LAW , ORDER, and JUSTICE for SOME
DISCRIMINATION (www.museumca.org/goldrush/fever16di.html).
- You will
need to consolidate your evidence before preparing your joint
arguments.
- Each legal
team will prepare one written statement on behalf of the plaintiff.
- Each team
will present their arguments aloud to the other legal teams.
- The teams
will discuss and decide whether to pursue this matter to trial.
- Each team
will write a follow-up letter to their client to explain their
decision.
