The Town of the Volcano 1997

This panorama was shot from just up the hill from where the historical photo was taken. The regrowth of trees has blocked the view from the exact spot from where the historical shot was taken. But this is a good sign that nature is recovering.

  1. Just visible to the right of the tall pine tree, and left of the electrical wire is the old hotel that is so prominent in the historical panorama. In the hundred or so years since the trees were cut down, the forest has partly regrown. But the forest is still young compared to what the miners found.
  2. The stream bed is regrown as pasture, habitat for horses and cows. Dams downstream now block the salmon.
