Conclusions: Reflective Writing and Map Center Work

Following class discussion, pass out notepaper and ask students to respond to the following prompt. Store their responses in the portfolios. 

Considering the dreams and expectations held by pioneers and argonauts, what difference will their coming make to those already living in the West?

Ask students to reflect on what places and/or notes they might want to add to their maps. Have them use the transparencies of the Native American Areas and Buffalo Herds maps at the Cartography Center to further annotate their maps. 

Integrating Music:

Sing with the class "The Rainbow Cradle" (Resource 2-1). Discuss how feelings are expressed through its imagery. Locate the Navajo people on the Native American Areas map.
